TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- FAMU sophomore volleyball player Nicole Abreu will represent her native Peru in Under 20 Women's Volleyball World Championships in Cordoba, Mexico.

Abreu, a 6-foot outside hitter from Lima, Peru, was named the 2016 MEAC Rookie of the Year and earned 2nd Team All-MEAC last season.

The outside hitter ranked sixth in the MEAC with 3.18 kills per match and eighth in the conference in hitting (.247).

Abreu is the second Lady Rattler to represent Peru in international play, joining libero Valentina Carrasco, who competed with Peru's 2015 U18 squad. She's the fourth Lady Rattler to play in a summer international competition.

The Peruvian National Team will open the championships on Friday against China at 2 p.m. Peru is in a four-team pool with China, Poland and the Dominican Republic, the defending champions.
