TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Florida State University Police Department and the Leon County Multi-Agency DUI Strike Force are conducting two DUI checkpoints on campus Thursday.
The first will be held in the 800 block of West Jefferson Street from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. The second will take place in the 500 block of College Avenue from 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Officers will also be conducting a DUI saturation patrol around FSU's campus until 3 a.m.
“It’s our responsibility to protect our community from impaired drivers, and this operation will facilitate that important effort,” said David Perry, chief of the FSU Police Department and assistant vice president for Public Safety. “We remind all motorists that they should never get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol. But, if someone does choose to drive impaired, we will do our part to get them off our roadways. No warnings. No excuses.”
FSUPD says through its continued focus on enforcement of impaired driving, the department recorded 53 DUIs in 2017 and has made 20 arrests in 2018.
