The Florida Highway Patrol is reporting a fatal accident on North Monroe Street and Swatts Rd involving a pedestrian.
TALLAHASSEE (WCTV) - The Florida Highway Patrol reported a fatal accident on North Monroe Street and Swatts Road involving a pedestrian. According to FHP, the accident happened at 6:59 a.m.
The pedestrian who died was Deonna Gooden, a 35-year-old woman from Tallahassee, according to FHP.
Troopers say the pedestrian died at the scene after a car hit her while she tried to cross the street. No one inside a car was injured though, so they didn't have to be taken to the hospital. FHP says at least three vehicles hit the pedestrian.
"As that pedestrian got over to the second lane that was closest to the median, [s]he was struck by the first vehicle, and subsequently struck by two other vehicles at that time," FHP Lieutenant James Shaw said.

As of 10:45 a.m. Thursday, the area has been cleared and North Monroe Street is back open.
The crash is still under investigation, but Shaw says he doesn't believe texting and driving was a factor in the crash.
"It's very unsafe," Shaw says. "No lights, a lot of speeding, low visibility."
Darryn Woods lives near North Monroe Street. This is not the first fatal accident he's seen.
"We are very careful when we cross that road," Woods says. "Very, very careful. Because a lot fo people come down speeding, no lights, nothing to slow them down."
The pedestrian was not crossing at a crosswalk, according to FHP.
