SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WCTV) -- The final road test of the season for Florida State also just might prove to be their stiffest test of the year as the Seminoles take on the #3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish from South Bend on Saturday.
The Noles are coming off a solid offensive performance, although the score might not indicate it, last week in Raleigh against NC State, and it remains to be seen if that offensive mojo can continue.
Having said that, Deondre Francois is slated to start tonight so we'll see what affect that has for the Noles.
FSU's defense has a heckuva task ahead of them, as well, taking on an offense that averages 268.1 passing yards per game, 181 rushing yards per game and is scoring 33.7 points per game while allowing just 19.
It's a tall task for Willie Taggart's squad. Let's see how they'll step up to it.
Below will be a running live blog of today's game featuring play by play, updates and analysis.
FINAL: FSU 13 - ND 42
It wasn't pretty tonight if you're a Noles fan. For a full recap of the affair, click here.
4th Quarter, 13:10 - FSU 13 - ND 42
Dexter Williams scores his second touchdown of the game and has 202 yards rushing on 20 catches as the Irish add to their lead.
That last drive saw 12 plays, all of which were rushes, and spanned 97 yards. ND is in full clock kill mode offensively.
END OF THE THIRD QUARTER: FSU 13 - ND 35
By far the least interesting quarter tonight. 10 total points. ND seems to be in control and is driving to start the fourth.
3rd Quarter, 13:35 - FSU 13 - ND 32
Remember how poorly the game started for FSUi n the first half? Well it's that, but reversed to open the second half.
Stanford Samuels picks Wimbush off and the Noles punch it in with Cam's second score of the game.
It's far from over, but a couple more things have to go the Noles way.
HALFTIME: FSU 6 - ND 32
Honestly, the score pretty much explains it all tonight.
2nd Quarter, 6:18 - FSU 6 - ND 32
For the second time tonight, Mack makes an insane catch in the endzone for a Notre Dame touchdown.
That drive was incredibly easy for the Irish, who marched 67 yards in just six plays, taking 1:50 off the clock.
2nd Quarter, 13:17 - FSU 6 - ND 25
The FSU defense gets burned for consecutive long running plays, first from QB Brandon Wimbush who picked up 17 yards and then by Dexter Williams, who went up the gut nearly untouched for 58 yards.
The PAT was blocked because this game is zainy, but all of the good that that long touchdown drive did for FSU is, effectively, gone.
2nd Quarter, 13:17 - FSU 6 - ND 19
The good: The Noles put together a nice drive, going 75 yards on 16 plays with a near perfect Deondre Francois in the pocket and Cam Akers punches it in from eight yards out.
The bad: Ricky Aguayo's PAT is blocked and returned for two points.
END OF THE FIRST QUARTER: FSU 0 - ND 17
The game started around 7:30 but FSU didn't think it did until around 8:15. The Noles have settled down, offensively, and are driving inside the ND red zone with the chance to put points on the board early in the second quarter.
1st Quarter, 6:51 - FSU 0 - ND 17
So here's the thing, it should be a lot worse for the Noles.
Cam Akers fumbled the football on the first play following ND's second touchdown but the FSU defense stands tall and forces a field goal.
Nothing has gone right offensively for FSU tonight, who has a drive chart that reads: INT, three-and-out, fumble.
1st Quarter, 6:51 - FSU 0 - ND 14
The Noles go three-and-out on their second possession of the day, which makes way for ND to string together a 14-play, 81-yard drive to take a two touchdown lead, thanks in part to a great play by Alize Mack to tip toe the boundary in the back of the endzone.
This game has been all ND so far. FSU with just six yards of total offense while the FSU defense has been on the field for over 5:30.
1st Quarter, 13:45 - FSU 0 - ND 7
Deondre Francois threw an interception on the second play of the game and two plays later the Irish punch it on thanks to a three-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Wimbush to Miles Boykin to give the Irish an early 7-0 lead.
The exact opposite start you wanted if you're FSU.
Oh, and hello everyone.
