Former StarMetro driver arrested for stealing bus

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- A former StarMetro bus driver has been arrested after police say she stole a bus and went on a joy ride.

The Tallahassee Police Department responded to the area of Champions Way and Hendry Street just after 12 p.m. Friday for a report of a stolen city bus.

The bus was later recovered approximately four miles away, near the 2700 block of West Tharpe Street.

The suspect, later identified as 34-year-old Darica Howard, was seen walking in the area. Police learned that Howard was an ex-employee of StarMetro.

Following an investigation, Howard was arrested and charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle.

Howard was booked into the Leon County Detention Facility.
