BRISTOL, Fla. (WCTV) – Funeral arrangements are being made for the Liberty County High School baseball coach and his wife who died in a tragic accident Sunday.
The funeral for Corey and Shana Crum is scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Civic Center in Bristol, according to Liberty County Schools Superintendent David Summers. All other arrangements are still pending.
The superintendent says Coach Crum was killed while trying to speed up recovery from Hurricane Michael by getting the baseball field’s new scoreboard ready. Summers says Crum was installing three poles when the machine touched a power line and, when Crum stepped off, he was electrocuted.
According to Summers, Crum’s wife, Shana, came to his aid and was electrocuted, too. The couple’s son, Chase, ran to his parents. Officials say he was burned on his hands and body.
Baseball players and their parents who were helping with the field cleanup witnessed it all.
“It tugs at any parent’s heart to see children hurting,” Summers said. “The tears I saw, they were so, they were everywhere. Adults, children, all we needed to do was just hold onto each other.”
Students have placed black ribbons around Liberty County High School in honor of a dedicated coach and his wife.
“A very close family, very tight-knit family,” Summers said. “They’ll be truly missed.”
Grief counselors are available at the school. Superintendent Summers said he met with teachers first thing Monday morning to make sure they have what they need to be supported.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the family.
