QUINCY, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Gadsden County Sheriff's Office is urging local churches to be prepared in the event of an active shooter or crisis situation by creating an action plan.
Sheriff Morris A. Young hosted a press conference Thursday to announce a training exercise consisting of workshops and a mock scenario of an active shooter.
Kenya Williams, assistant pastor at New Direction Christian Center, said, "We would hope that it not happen, but that's just not the reality. Sometimes things happen beyond our control and we want to be prepared. Of course we have faith, and we won't let anything shake that. But, faith without works is dead, so have a plan."
Meetings will take place on November 16 and 30. The mock training exercise will take place in December. The time and place are still to be determined.
Church leaders are urged to sign up. For more information, call the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office at (850) 875-8833.
