THOMAS COUNTY, Ga. (WCTV) -- The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a wreck that happened in the last hour before the New Year, killing one of the drivers.

The accident happened Monday around 11 p.m. in the final hours of GSP's 102-hour holiday travel period.

When authorities responded to the intersection of Georgia-Florida Parkway and the Thomasville Bypass they found two vehicles wrecked in the road.

One couple in a truck sustained minor injuries. The driver of the second car was pronounced dead on the scene. Troopers aren't releasing the names of those involved at this time.

"Knowing it's a fatality makes it so much more important. Everybody wants answers and family members are crying about who was in the car. That's hard to tell the family," said Jamill Curry, the responding trooper.

Tuesday, GSP was still in the process of interviewing witnesses. They believe the driver of the car ran the light, crossing the intersection into the truck's lane.

Autopsy and toxicology reports are pending.
