Georgia man hit in foot by homeowner's warning shot

VALDOSTA, GA (WCTV) – A Georgia man was shot in the foot after a homeowner warned him to leave the property.

The Valdosta Police Department says the owner of a residence on N. Troup Street saw an unidentified 25-year-old male throw what appeared to be a brick at his dog, who was barking in the yard.

According to the investigation, the homeowner told the man to leave the dog alone, but then heard his wife yelling outside and grabbed his gun.

Police say the homeowner found the man standing outside with a shard of glass. The man began to approach the homeowner, who fired a warning shot into the ground.

The homeowner says he fired two more warning shots into the ground after the man refused to drop the glass and leave.

Investigators say it appears that one of the bullets ricocheted off of the ground and hit the man in the foot.

The man was transported to South Georgia Medical Center, where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is still ongoing.
