VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) -- Students at Valdosta State are helping to brighten up the holidays for local families.
The Holiday Helper Tree is now up at Valdosta State University. The tree is a partnership project with the Children's Advocacy Center of Lowndes County.
Each ornament on the tree represents a child in Lowndes County whose family needs a little extra help this holiday season.
It's open to students and staff, as well as anyone in the community who feels compelled to give. Those interested can take an ornament and help buy gifts from the child's wish list on the back.
"We have seen year after year just how much of a success this program is and how much it gives back," said Sylandi Brown, Student Assistant for Campus Services. "This is the season of giving and people are so willing to be a part of it, it's an incredible time that we have just to continue this program."
Organizers hope to support 67 kids in Lowndes County, and only a handful of ornaments remained on the tree Thursday.
The deadline for donations is December 12. The gifts will then be given to the Children's Advocacy Center for distribution.
