LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. (WCTV) -- Interstate ramp closures are scheduled to begin Thursday in Lowndes County.
The southbound ramps on I-75 on exit 22 are scheduled to close overnight on Thursday.
Crews will be leveling out the asphalt to get the new northbound ramps opened up.
The construction is part of nearly $50 million Georgia Department of Transportation project to reconstruct exit 22 and exit 29 in Hahira. Officials said the work is to improve the existing infrastructure in order to better handle the growing amount of traffic in the area.
Southbound ramps will close from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Thursday, and again on Monday.
The new ramps are scheduled to open February 12. Then, crews will start demolishing the old ones.
There will be officers on both the top and bottom of the southbound ramps during closures. Once the work is done, GDOT said crews will move on to work on exit 29.
