Escaped Liberty County inmate caught in Tallahassee

An inmate who escaped from the Liberty County Jail on Sunday has been caught in Tallahassee.

TPD spokeswoman Rachelle Denmark says Everett Jedadiah Ellis was captured this morning near the corner of Woodward Avenue and West Tennessee Street.

Denmark says a citizen tip led to the arrest at about 8:30 a.m.

Liberty County Sheriff's Office Captain Lee Keith says Ellis surrendered without incident and told officers he was tired after walking 100 miles.

Captain Keith says Ellis was in the Liberty County Jail serving a sentence for drug charges and was just months away from his release when he escaped.

LIBERTY COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) -- Authorities in Liberty and Leon County are searching for an escaped inmate.

31-year-old Everett Jedadiah Ellis escaped from the Liberty County Jail on Sunday evening.

According to the Liberty County Sheriff's Office, Ellis escaped from a second floor confinement area of the jail. Authorities say Ellis was able to gain access to the outside of the building, made his way onto the roof, and then fled on foot.

Ellis was serving an 11-month, 29-day sentence for drug related charges. Authorities say it is unknown if Ellis is or has become armed since his escape.

Ellis is now facing additional charges for escape and felony criminal mischief / property damage.

Ellis is 5'7" tall, 160 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a light colored shirt, khaki pants, and 'croc' type shoes.

He was last seen on Sunday evening at the Crows Corner convenience store at 29102 SR 20 in Hosford, near the Leon County-Liberty County line.

LCSO says an extensive search was conducted with assistance from Leon County Sheriff's Office Air Support, Florida Department of Corrections K-9 tracking teams, Liberty County Emergency Management and Deputies from the Liberty County Sheriff's Office.

The search was called off at 6 a.m. on Monday due to severe weather. Ellis remains at large.
