VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Officials say an inmate at the Valdosta State Prison has died.
Dominique Bohannon Hurt, 33, was found unresponsive in his cell at the Valdosta State Prison on Sunday, according to Lowndes County Coroner Bill Watson.
Hurt was pronounced dead at 3:20 p.m. in the Emergency Room at South Georgia Medical Center.
Hurt is the third inmate from the Valdosta State Prison to die this year. Two other inmates, 36-year-old Cody Vestal and 31-year-old Richard Strickland, died when a cell caught fire in February.
Watson says CPR was performed on Hurt when he was found, but he was unresponsive.
Watson also says he saw no signs of trauma on the inmate's body.
Hurt's death is currently being investigated by Georgia's Department of Corrections and his body will be sent for an autopsy in Macon, Georgia on Tuesday morning.
After the autopsy, Watson says Hurt's body will be returned to his family, who live around the Milledgeville area.
Hurt was convicted of Statutory Rape in Baldwin County, Georgia in 2002.
Ten years later, in 2012, he failed to register as a sex offender.
