Deputies: Suspect fired gun to intimidate woman, robbed her

JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) -- A fugitive wanted in connection to an aggravated battery and armed robbery has been arrested.

On May 25, the Jackson County Sheriff’s launched an investigation into the reported aggravated assault of a woman.

The victim told deputies that the suspect, Thabit Nadir Mateen, 31, drove her to a secluded area where he retrieved a pistol. He then allegedly hit her in the forehead, injuring her, and fired a gun near the victim to intimidate her. Mateen then reportedly stole the victim’s phone, money, and medication.

A warrant was issued for Mateen's arrest on June 6.

On Tuesday, Mateen was taken into custody at his home on Jackson Road near Jacob by the U.S. Marshals Task Force and the JCSO Fugitive Apprehension Division.

Mateen is charged with armed robbery, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm by a felon.

He was booked into the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await his first appearance.
