TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Kearney Center in Tallahassee is now offering free dental care to the city's homeless population.

Services at the dental office are completely free of charge to those who currently live at either The Dwellings or Westgate Community and who meet Department of Health-required income restrictions.

The new dental clinic, located within The Kearney Center, was made possible by several non-profit organizations, and became a reality after only three months of planning.

Cleanings, x-rays, extractions and fillings will all be offered.

"People who've been experiencing homelessness traditionally have not had access to any kind of oral care, so we're really excited to be providing services to help people improve their oral health so they can also improve their overall health," said Director Russell Rainey.

The dental office is open five days a week, with a dentist on site twice a week and a hygienist on site daily. The center is staffed by volunteers and is looking for more dentists to volunteer.
