Law enforcement cracking down on speeders this week
July 18, 2018
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- Talking to many drivers at a rest stop just west of Tallahassee, many people say they have been out on the roads since early in the morning.
They all share the same feeling; a speed enforcement crackdown is necessary for driving on major roads.
The 2nd annual Operation Southern Shield is taking place in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina and Tennessee this week. Those that travel the roads that run through those states say they want to see drivers slow down.
"Way too many aggressive drivers, way too many. People just aren't paying attention," said Brian Eckland.
"We've been doing pretty much the speed limit, but we seem to be on the slow end of it. So, to speak with everyone flying by us is very impatient," added Betty Crowley
Speeding is one of the leading causes of fatal traffic crashes in the United States, with more than 10,000 killed in 2016.
Operation Southern Shield runs through Sunday.
