Leon County Schools names finalists for Teacher of the Year

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- Leon County Schools has announced five finalists for the 2018-2019 Teacher of the Year.

The finalists are:

  • Taraneh Oliver — Deerlake Middle School, Mathematics teacher.
  • Tamika Brown —John G. Riley Elementary School, Fourth grade teacher.
  • Marcy Grauer — Killearn Lakes Elementary School, Third grade teacher.
  • Daniel Johnson — Fairview Middle School, Social studies teacher.
  • Jeannine Meis — Leon High School, World history teacher.

    LCS says the Leon County Teacher of the Year winner will be surprised at their school on December 13.

    The finalists were selected by a committee of teachers, administrators, parents and community representatives from a list of 44 candidates. The committee selected the finalists based on their reviews of 'redacted applications' (no names or schools on them) from each respective LCS school level Teacher of the Year.

    All of the finalists will undergo an interview with the selection committee on Wednesday, ahead of Thursday's big announcement.
