TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- Leon County Schools confirms that a bus driver has been suspended, accused of making an inappropriate comment to students.

Bus driver Sherrill Conner has been placed on leave, pending a review of an incident that occurred aboard a LCS bus.

District officials say the incident happened on Tuesday afternoon at Godby High School as the bus was about to leave the school. Conner is accused of saying, "We speak English here," to four Hispanic students.

The bus then left school, but soon returned. District officials say Conner reported that the students were causing a disruption and then asked an assistant principal to remove them from bus.

The students were taken off the bus and picked up by parents or arranged to take a city bus to get home. Officials say the children are not facing any discipline.

Leon County Schools spokesperson Chris Petley said, "This is unacceptable behavior from any of our employees and we will ensure this situation is taken seriously."
