TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- Leon County Schools has closed all but one of their hurricane shelters, but the Red Cross is still operating shelters in Gadsden and Taylor Counties.
According to LCS spokesperson Chris Petley, SAIL High School remains open with about 60 people staying there, but the rest of the schools that were being used as shelters will be closed so they can cleaned for a potential reopen. No decision has been made if classes will resume on Monday.
Sharon Tyler, with Capital Area Red Cross, says a new shelter in Wakulla County at Shadeville Community Center will open either Thursday or Friday night.
Tyler says they expect the shelter population to grow with people discovering their homes are damaged or without power.
