HAVANA, Fla. (WCTV) -- Mary Huber is charged with abusing her 29-year-old mentally disabled daughter.

Authorities say Huber burned her daughter with a hot iron at their home in Havana.

Huber's husband, Roy, is upset and says his wife did not burn their daughter.

"This incident happened two months ago. Why did DCF leave? Why did Gadsden County Sheriff's Department leave? They suspected nothing. Now my wife's sitting in jail."

Gadsden County investigators say the daughter told a neighbor that Huber burned her with a hot iron. That neighbor called authorities.

"Come to find out, when we got to checking into it, the iron was sitting on top of the ironing board and she tried to get by it, scooted around and hit it by accident. It just made a little red spot on her side there where the iron touched her," said, Kelly Cook, a family friend.

SGT Angie Hightower with the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office, said, "It was confirmed that she was actually still asleep and lying in the bed. When she didn't get up when she was told to, her mother put the hot iron to her butt. It actually left the entire print of the iron with the steam marks as well."

The incident was first reported in July.

Sgt. Hightower said, "There were pictures taken by the Department of Children and Families and all the information was given to us. It was verified that the incident did occur and that there is a burn mark. We found probable cause to arrest Ms. Huber."

"Makes me kind of disgusted that that's what they're trying to do, to booster themselves up a little bit. I know for a fact it didn't happen. I know for a fact it didn't happen," Cook, said.

Huber's bond has been set for $100,000.

Records show Huber is currently on 20 years probation out of Grady County, Ga. on a first degree arson.

HAVANA, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Gadsden County Sheriff's Office has arrested a Havana woman, after deputies say she abused her physically and mentally challenged daughter.

GCSO says Mary Huber got upset with her 29-year-old daughter when she didn't get up from the bed and punished her by placing a hot iron on the victim's buttocks.

Deputies say the victim sustained aggravated burns that left the entire print of the iron on her skin as a result of the incident.

Following an investigation, Huber was arrested and booked into the Gadsden County Jail on charges of aggravated abuse on a disabled person and malicious intent to harm against a disabled person.

One of Huber's daughters reached out to WCTV and provided us with the following statement:

"My mother is not the person that is being portrayed in the public eye. My mother is a loving, giving, selfless person. She goes above and beyond for her children and friends. Anyone who knows her, knows that she would never do anything to intentionally hurt anyone, including her own child. Everyone has a past. But we do not allow our past to define us. My mother is not the person in her past. She is a committed wife, a caring and loving mother and an excited grandmother. These accusations are hurting our family and the people who know her. My sister knows that my mother loves her and what happened was an accident."
