MARIANNA, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Marianna Police Department has arrested a man on drug and fleeing charges after he failed to stop when officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
Officials say on Tuesday, an MPD officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven by 31-year-old Timothy Myrick for a faulty equipment infraction but, upon emergency lights being activated, Myric failed to stop.
MPD says Myrick continued through the intersection of Orange Street and Old Cottondale Road when the officer activated their siren. Officials say, at that point, Myrick began to flee.
Authorities say Myric continued driving, making an abrupt right turn onto Harley Drive and then another right onto Village Court before leaving the car to flee on foot while it was still in motion. MPD says the car continued into the yard of a nearby residence.
Officers say they engaged in a foot pursuit with Myrick and were able to apprehend him.
Officials say a search of Myrick revealed a plastic bag of approximately 52 grams of methamphetamine and a digital scale, which officials say is consistent with the sale of illegal narcotics.
Myrick has been booked into the Jackson County Correctional Facility on charges of fleeing and attempting to elude and trafficking in meth.
