SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) -- A young boy who was critically injured in a DUI crash in Suwannee County earlier this month has passed away at the hospital.

The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the child as 8-year-old Dewayne Keene, of Lake City. Troopers say Keene died on November 20 at Shands Hospital.

The crash happened November 18 at the intersection of 216th Street in Suwannee County.

FHP says 60-year-old Douglas Martin, of Pompano Beach, failed to slow down for a Buick Rendezvous that was attempting to turn. Martin rear-ended the vehicle, which Keene was riding in.

The driver of the Buick, 37-year-old Samantha Nichols, was seriously injured. A 14-year-old boy who was also in the car suffered minor injuries.

Martin was arrested at the scene for DUI causing serious bodily injury to another and careless driving. FHP says additional charges are pending.

SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) -- A man is facing a DUI charge after he reportedly crashed into the back of another car, injuring the three people inside.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 8:45 p.m. Sunday on US 129 at the intersection of 216th Street in Suwannee County.

The crash report states that 60-year-old Douglas Martin, of Pompano Beach, was driving south on US 129 when he failed to slow down for a Buick Rendezvous that was attempting to make a left turn onto 216th Street.

An 8-year-old boy in the Rendezvous was ejected from the car during the collision and was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the Buick, 37-year-old Samantha Nichols, was seriously injured. A 14-year-old boy who was also in the car suffered minor injuries.
