TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- Imagine biking all the way from Florida to California-- about 4,000 miles. That's exactly what one New York man is doing.
Matt Barbaccia left Jacksonville on Monday. He rode into Tallahassee on Wednesday afternoon, carrying all of his necessities on the back of his bicycle.
So why ride across the country? To raise money and awareness for Parkinson's disease-- a cause that's close to his heart. With his grandfather and uncle both affected by the disease, Matt says they get him through when the ride gets tough.
"I've found the motivation to continue heading in the direction that I need to go in. I think my uncle, my cause, all these people who are rooting for me, really inspires me to continue pedaling. I get from one point to the next and I hope that continues as I cross the country," Matt says.
Matt will be heading to Panama City on Thursday and plans to make it to California by May. He hopes to raise $50,000 along the way.
