TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- A 13-year-old has been arrested after Leon County deputies say the child was found with a steak knife in his backpack at Cobb Middle School.

Deputy Dave Teems with the Leon County Sheriff's Office says the knife was spotted on Thursday morning when the child had his backpack open. Deputies say at no point was the knife used in a threatening matter.

The child reportedly told deputies that he had accidentally left the knife in the bag from the day before and forgotten it was still in the bag when he brought it to school.

LCSO says there was no security threat to the school and the child was taken into custody without incident.

We have reached out to Leon County Schools and Cobb Middle School officials for comment but have not yet heard back.
