TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- This Christmas, hundreds of girls across the Big Bend will have a special friend waiting for them under the tree.

Faith-based organization Handle Me with Care Dolls distributed more than 200 dolls to nonprofits and local groups at Longhorn Steakhouse on North Monroe Wednesday afternoon.

The dolls will be given out to victims of abuse with the hope of providing them with a sense of comfort this holiday season.

"Just to spread love to women and children in our community because domestic violence and sexual abuse is very high during the holiday season," Handle Me with Care Dolls founder Sandra Collins said. "So we want to continue to send a message out through the community and business that we're still here standing against domestic violence."

Later Wednesday, the organizer will hold a drawing for a free dinner at Longhorn Steakhouse.
