New cinema coming to Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV)—Moviegoers in Tallahassee will soon have a new cinema to sit in.

Cobb Theatres is currently constructing a new theater in Fallschase, which is set to open in Fall 2018.

“I think Cobb is on the cutting edge,” said Bubba Smith, a developer with Capital Properties who is working on the project. “All the technical things they use, they’re at the top of the bar.”

Smith said he expects the theater to draw 350,000 people in year one and predicts it’ll be the dominate theater in the market here in Tallahassee.

Because of its location near I-10 and along Mahan Drive, as well as the surrounding residential and retail space, he said it’ll draw consumers to come visit.

“You’ve got the development going on right now and it will continue to go along on Mahan all the way to 10… There’s a lot of things happening,” he said.

The movie theater will have 14 screens and more than 1,600 reclining seats. There will also be a full service kitchen as well as concession stands. The idea is to create a complete experience.

movie theater as it relates to technology, comfort and other assets,” said Smith.

Two other big named movie theaters are already open in Tallahassee.

Regal operates at Governor’s Square, and AMC is open at the Centre of Tallahassee.

Smith said it is a 53-week long building process, which started three weeks ago. He plans to have a soft opening in early fall of 2018 in hopes of being fully up and running for the holiday season.
