VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) -- Comfort food is taking on a new meaning in Valdosta.
The age old question of, 'where should we go eat?' now has one more option: Home. On Thursday, Waitr, a new food delivery service, launched in Valdosta. Dozens of local restaurants have already signed on.
"Everybody wants convenient food," said Jamie Stuckey, Catering and Social Media Director at Smok'n Pig BBQ. "Especially local good food, it's just a way to get that easier."
Users can download the Waitr app and order food from their phone to be delivered to their home or work.
The company expects to hire about 100 people over the next couple of months.
"The demand for local food delivery kind of steers our path, so we noticed there was a good opportunity in Valdosta. A good community, we love to be involved in these small communities," said Whitney Savoie, Director of Market Development for Waitr. "We want to create revenue for the local restaurants, and we also want to create jobs in the community. We are big on local involvement."
So far, more than 40 local restaurants are signed up. Waitr expects to add more every day.
Smok'n Pig is already involved, and said the orders are already coming in.
"It helps with the folks that, it isn't so convenient for them to come out and dine as often, like take out but easier," Stuckey said.
More than 20 local drivers are already delivering food around Valdosta.
