GILCHRIST COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) -- Nine teenagers were involved in a head-on collision over the weekend, sending six to the hospital with various injuries.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday on NW 22nd Court in Gilchrist County.
The crash report states that a GMC Sierra and a Dodge Ram were both traveling in the center of a dirt road when they collided head-on as they were approaching a hill crest.
FHP says two 17-year-old girls in the Sierra were trauma alerted to UF Health in critical condition.
A 17-year-old girl in the Ram suffered serious injuries. A 17-year-old boy and another 17-year-old girl in the vehicle were treated for minor injuries. Three other teenagers in the truck were not hurt.
The driver of the Sierra, 18-year-old Dakota Simpson, was charged with failure to use due care. He suffered minor injuries in the crash.
FHP says all of the teenagers were wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
