TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) and the Department of Financial Services (DFS) are warning Floridians about an email scam.

Officials say a fraudulent email is circulating that claims to be sent from OIR Commissioner David Altmaier and notifies the recipient that their insurance policies have been cancelled.

The OIR does not send notices of cancellation and is advising anyone who receives this email to disregard it. Recipients should not click on any links contained in the fraudulent email and should delete it immediately.

The OIR says consumers should report this scam and any other fraudulent activity to the Department of Financial Services’ Insurance Consumer Helpline, by calling 1 (877) 693–5236. The OIR says consumers can also use this helpline to speak directly with insurance experts who can assist consumers with the filing of post-storm insurance claims and answer any insurance-related questions.
