Officials investigating business fire on West Tennessee Street

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Tallahassee Fire Department responded to a business fire around 2:30 p.m. Monday.

TFD says crews arrived to the 1860 block of West Tennessee Street at 2:25 p.m. and saw smoke coming from a large building. The fire broke out in a business that was under construction.

Authorities say the blaze was quickly located with help from on-site construction crews and the fire was extinguished.

One worker was injured in an attempted to extinguish the fire and was treated on scene by TFD paramedics. Officials say the worker did not need hospitalization.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Authorities say the fire caused an estimated $25,000 in damage and a nearby business suffered some damage, but is expected to reopen soon.

TFD was assisted at the scene by the Tallahassee Police Department.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- Officials are on the scene of a fire in the Varsity Plaza shopping center on West Tennessee Street.

The owner of the Super Cuts in the shopping center told WCTV that the store next door was welding before the insulation caught fire.

The Tallahassee Fire Department has not released any details.

There is no information on any injuries, but some of the businesses in the shopping center have been evacuated.
