LOWNDES CO., Ga. (WCTV) -- One person has died and another is in serious condition following a crash in Lowndes County on Thursday night.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the driver was attempting to navigate a curve on Clyattville-Nankin Road at Sand Oak Drive when the car traveled off of the roadway and into a ditch. The car then began to overturn multiple times.
Troopers say the front seat passenger, 49-year-old Jason Dwayne Shelton, was ejected from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene despite bystanders attempting to perform CPR.
Officials say Shelton was not wearing a seat belt.
GSP says the driver was airlifted to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
Troopers suspect speed and alcohol to be a contributing factor in the crash and say toxicology reports and charges are pending.
