LEVY COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash involving five vehicles. One person was killed, and several others were injured.
According to FHP, a Kia Soul and a Chevy Silverado were traveling south on US-41. A group of Harley Davidson motorcycles was traveling north on US-41 and attempted to pass a vehicle traveling in the same direction. Troopers say three of the motorcyclists did not pass the vehicle in time, causing them to collide with the Kia and the Chevy.
Troopers say four people involved in the crash were transported to UF Shands Hospital in Gainesville with various injuries. Two of them had to be airlifted by helicopter.
The injured have been identified as 45-year-old Karl Hulsizer, of Crystal River, 47-year-old Craig Conrad and 41-year-old Amy Conrad, of Homosassa, and 28-year-old Jessalyn Krewson, of Gainesville. Craig Conrad's injuries have been labeled as "critical." The rest of the injured motorists are in serious condition.
One of the motorcyclists was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased has been identified as 55-year-old Tony Mead, of Homosassa.
The crash is still under investigation.
