LOWNDES CO., Ga. (WCTV) -- One man is dead after an early morning crash in Lowndes County Saturday.

Authorities say 25-year-old Stephen Hancock was traveling south on Bemiss Knights Academy Road just before 4:00 a.m. Saturday when he attempted to drive past a curve and traveled off of the roadway.

Hancock's motorcycle flipped and slid 40 feet before hitting a culvert. Hancock was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers suspect speed and alcohol or drugs may have been contributing factors in the crash.
