FRANKLIN CO., Fla. (WCTV) – The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating a deadly plane crash that happened Friday evening near Apalachicola.

The sheriff’s office says a Cessna 210 crashed into the marsh of the Apalachicola River Friday night, shortly after taking off from the Apalachicola airport.

Neighbors reported the crash and sheriff’s officials responded by boat.

The pilot of the plane, 73-year-old Lewis Cameron Midlam, of Fort Myers, was found dead at the scene.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) -- One person has died following the crash of a small plane east of the Apalachicola River, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office says.

FCSO says the crash happened around 6:25 p.m

Authorities say no further details are available at this time.
