DECATUR COUNTY, Ga. (WCTV) -- The Decatur County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a recent scam involving the caller posing as a sheriff's deputy.
Deputies say the caller claims to be 'Deputy Davis' with the Decatur County Sheriff's Office, then tells the victim that there is a warrant out for their arrest and they must send money to dismiss the warrant.
The Sheriff's Office is reminding residents that they never accept money for warrants and calls of this nature are simply a scam.
Authorities are working to trace these phone calls and locate the suspect responsible.
Officials say if you receive this type of call, hang up immediately.
