GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCTV) -- A small plane made an emergency landing on Interstate 75 in Alachua County this morning, the Florida Highway Patrol confirms.
The plane touched down just before noon on Thursday in the northbound lanes of I-75 near Paynes Prairie, at mile marker 381.
A viewer at our sister station WCJB captured video of the plane landing as vehicles maneuvered out of the way.
FHP says they first received the call at 11:55 a.m. about a single-engine aircraft that needed to make an unscheduled landing on I-75.
At 12:03 p.m., the first FHP trooper arrived at the location and the plane had already landed.
FHP says the two occupants aboard the plane were not injured.
The Alachua County Sheriff's Office says the plane was towed off the interstate and will temporarily be parked next to the entrance of the Paynes Prairie Rest Area, allowing all three lanes on I-75 northbound to be opened up.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
