TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- A man is in custody this afternoon, accused of stealing a cash register drawer from a local school.

The incident happened around noon Thursday at the Adult and Community Education (ACE) school.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office says a deputy working next door at Lively Technical College was approached by an ACE employee about a crime that had just occurred.

The employee said a man had walked into the administration office, grabbed the till from the cash register at the front desk, and ran out the door with it.

The LCSO K-9 Unit and Aviation Unit responded to the scene to search for the man. The Tallahassee Police Department also responded to assist in the search, with LCSO adding that the incident was originally thought to be a robbery.

As deputies tracked the suspect with K-9's, employees at a local credit union called to report that a man had gone into their lobby and locked himself in the bathroom.

The man was later identified as the suspect, 19-year-old Daquan Balcom.

Balcom was taken into custody and charged with petit theft and resisting arrest without violence.
