Troopers identify man killed in crash on Woodville Highway

WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Florida Highway Patrol has identified a driver who was killed in a crash Thursday morning on Woodville Highway.

Troopers say the victim is 30-year-old Stephen J. Berry, of Crawfordville.

According to FHP, Berry was driving northbound on Woodville Highway when his Nissan Versa collided with the back of a stopped garbage truck.

Berry was pronounced dead at the scene by Wakulla Fire Rescue. Three men in the truck escaped without injury.

According to his Facebook page, Berry had just completed his volunteer firefighter training with Wakulla Fire Rescue the previous day. He leaves behind a wife and two young children.

WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) -- Authorities are currently on the scene of a fatal traffic accident in Wakulla County that has shut down a portion of Woodville Highway.

According to the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office, Woodville Highway between the Wakulla Station intersection and the Highway 98 intersection is closed. Northbound traffic on Woodville Highway from Highway 98 and southbound traffic from the Wakulla Station intersection is being rerouted.

Law enforcement is encouraging drivers to find an alternate route, as they say it will be several hours before the road can be reopened.

Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol are also on scene.
