QUITMAN, Ga. (WCTV) -- The Quitman Police Department wants residents to be aware of a phone scam involving callers posing as city employees.
The scammers call and claim to be with the City of Quitman. The caller then claims that the victim's utility bills are unpaid and threatens to turn off the victim's power if they do not provide personal information or make a payment.
Quitman Police say this is a scam and that the City will not call residents in this manner.
Police say if you receive this type of call, do not pay or give any information over the phone.
Police are advising residents to go to city hall if they'd like to check the status their utility bill.
