TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- Florida State fans received good news on Thursday when CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein reported senior forward Phil Cofer returned to practice this week and will be in uniform for the Seminoles' matchup against UConn.

Cofer, who was granted an extra year of eligibility back in May due to missing a majority of his sophomore season to an ankle injury, has missed each of FSU's first eight games due to a foot injury he sustained in practice.

The Georgia native averaged 12.8 points and 5.1 rebounds a game last year during FSU's Elite Eight run, both of which were career bests.

Cofer ranked third for the Noles last year in points produced, behind Braian Angola (who is playing his first year of professional basketball with the Lakeland Magic) and Terance Mann, who paces FSU in the same category in the early parts of this year.

Cofer's injury to open the year has meant more minutes earlier than expected for sophomore Mfiondu Kabengele and freshman Raiguan Gray.

FSU takes on the Huskies at the Donald L. Tucker Center on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
