THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WCTV) --The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has charged Robert Carter with malice murder and concealing the death of another.
During the past three weeks, members of the Thomasville community have been on edge waiting to find out answers regarding the disappearance of Deanna Shirey. But Wednesday evening brought a sense of closure for many.
"I think that we're thankful that he was caught, thankful that they have closure, thankful that hopefully now that they can move one," said Elizabeth Treat.
"We are so so thankful for our law enforcement...make sure that everything has come together and that he has now been charged officially with murder," added Jennifer Shiver.
Another woman we spoke with said she is a neighbor of Carter and has been frightened to go outside throughout the process and not wanting to stay home alone at night. She said she is in the process of installing night lights and other fixtures to make her feel safer.
Many in the community are relieved Carter is in custody and charged, and they are pleased the court process can now proceed.
