MADISON COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Madison County Sheriff's Office and Perry Police Department are investigating after credit card skimming devices were found at local gas stations.
Thursday morning, MCSO deputies responded to the Mobile gas station at 6390 South State Road 53 in Madison to investigate reports of a possible card skimmer on one of the pumps.
Deputies were able to remove the skimming device and secure it as evidence. They also checked the remaining fuel pumps for signs of tampering.
MCSO says it is not yet known how long the skimming device had been installed on the fuel pump before it was discovered. Investigators are awaiting surveillance video from the business for further information.
Later the same day, MCSO learned that the Perry Police Department had just arrested two suspects found in possession of similar skimming devices and other equipment utilized to illegally record credit and debit card information.
Investigators are now working with the Perry Police Department to determine if the same suspects are responsible for the skimmer found in Madison.
This is the second reported card skimmer located in Madison County during recent months. In September, a skimming device was found on a pump at Jimmie’s Auto Port located on South State Road 53 in Madison . Deputies say that case remains under investigation.
Authorities are reminding citizens to closely inspect fuel pumps before inserting their credit cards and to call law enforcement if they observe anything suspicious.
