TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- It was a dazzling night with a 'Great Gatsby' theme for the 23rd Stubbs Educational Foundation gala. WCTV Chief Meteorologist Mike McCall hosted the event, complete with live music, dancing, food and a silent auction.

Proceeds from the gala benefit the Stubbs Educational Foundation. The foundation awards scholarships for music lessons for K-12 students who may not be able to afford them.

Martha Stubbs is a founder and executive director of the foundation. She says that music plays an important role in developing young minds into future leaders.

"Music is a skill that helps you develop analytical thinking. It carries on to every educational skill that you need to develop," said Stubbs.

The Stubbs Educational Foundation began in 1994. Since 1995, the foundation awarded 836 scholarships to students across North Florida and South Georgia, amounting to more than $740,000.
