TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- A Tallahassee man is behind bars after police say he fired a gun not far from where officers were patrolling and then attempted to flee the area.
Around 11:50 p.m. Monday, officers with the Tallahassee Police Department were patrolling in an area near Keith Street when they heard approximately seven rapid-fire gunshots. Officers then located a suspect fleeing the scene on a bicycle near Osceola Street and Pasco Street.
The suspect was stopped and identified as 42-year-old Kalwone Mckenzie. Police say Mckenzie was known to law enforcement and was believed to be responsible for at least three reports of gunfire since October.
Mckenzie was found in possession of a gun that matched the shell casings found at the scene, but claimed that he had just picked it up after the actual shooter dropped it.
Following an investigation, Mckenzie was taken into custody by officers. Mckenzie remains in the Leon County Detention Facility on charges of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and firing a weapon in public.
