SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) -- One person was airlifted to the hospital after two semi-trucks collided this morning on Interstate 10 in Suwannee County.

Suwannee County Fire Rescue says crews responded to the scene on I-10 near mile marker 289 at around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday.

First responders arrived on scene to find one semi-truck overturned onto its roof and another with heavy damage to the back of its trailer.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, both trucks were heading eastbound on I-10 when one of the trucks approached the other one too quickly. The driver hit the brakes abruptly and swerved but was unable to avoid a collision. The truck struck the back of the other truck before traveling onto the shoulder and overturning.

FHP says the driver of the overturned truck, Larry Flowers, 49, of Mayo, suffered serious injuries. He was airlifted to UF Health Shands Hospital.

The driver of the second semi-truck was not injured.

I-10 was temporarily shut down in the area but has since reopened.

FHP cited Flowers for careless driving.
