TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Tallahassee Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting.
Police say two people were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. One of those people did not survive.
The shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. Sunday near the plaza at 2620 West Tennessee Street.
Jessica Bachansingh says she and her friends were waiting at the bus stop on the Tennessee Street Strip around 2 a.m. Sunday.
"And then we just hear like, bang, bang, bang," she said.
Bachansingh says they got on the bus. It headed west on Tennessee Street and passed by the plaza where the vape shop is.
"We counted I think 30 police cars, all with the blue lights, caution tape. The driver of the Night Nole said, 'oh yeah, there was a drive-by shooting here earlier.' It was very surreal that those were actually gunshots that were by the McDonald's Strip area," she said.
Bachansingh was shocked to learn that two people were shot at the scene she'd seen from the bus window.
She said, "No one should lose their life just from a drive-by. I could've been standing like 30 yards over and who knows if that could've hit me. I don't think anyone should obviously deserve to die."
Tallahassee Police have not been able to say what was going on at the time of the shooting and who was involved.
Officers do say there was a large crowd in that area at the time. Business owners in the area say most of the people from the crowd were there as patrons of the Shisha Hookah Bar.
Officer Damon Miller, a TPD spokesperson, said, "A lot of people were observed filming the incident. So, if you have any information, please review your camera footage or whatever and give us a call and bring it in so we can review that footage. Also, to bring some closure to the victims' families."
"I think it just does bring on the reality of the world that it really isn't as safe as we all expect it to be," said Bachansingh.
Police have not confirmed if the gunshots Bachansingh says she heard down at the Strip were related to the deadly shooting.
Officer Miller says they don't have any leads or suspects at this time.
Investigators are asking if anyone has any information to please call the police department at (850) 891-4200 or Big Bend Crime Stoppers at (850) 574-TIPS.
