TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Tallahassee Police Department is investigating a shooting.

Police say one person was shot and taken to the hospital in serious condition. They have not released any information on the identity of that person.

The shooting happened around 12:31 a.m. Tuesday at Aqua Palms Apartments at 1600 Old Bainbridge Road.

Alton Williams says he was inside his apartment when the shooting happened.

He says he didn't see anything, but he heard it.

"The next thing I know, I heard gunshots all around. I didn't want to look outside because if I look outside it's not really my business. It's one of the first times it ever got reported. A lot of stuff be going down. A lot of people don't really be saying nothing, minding their own business." Alton said.

Tallahassee Police say people should say something.

Officer Damon Miller says there were a lot of people present when one person got shot. But, he says, no one's really coming forward.

"Just think if that was your loved one. You would want the person brought to justice. It not only helps us close the case, but most importantly help the family have some kind of closure." Officer Miller said.

Police have not explained the circumstances surrounding the shooting or exactly where it was at the apartment complex.

Tallahassee resident Kenneth Gordon says these shootings are happening too often in the capital city.

"Scary. You can come out your door, sitting up in your house. Bullets don't have no name. Wherever they're pointed or shot -- it's bad." He said.

That's what prompted Aljavon Wiggins to buy a bullet proof vest, he says. "I'm wearing a bullet proof vest because I just want to be safe. I just bought this today, actually."

Aljavon also lives in Aqua Palms and heard the gunshots. He says something needs to change in regards to community violence.

"I feel like we should all come together and we should all come up with some type of solution. Things cannot keep going at this cataclysmic sequence of events. It just can't." Said, Aljavon.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about this case to please call them at (850) 891-4200 or Crime Stoppers at (850) 574-TIPS.
