TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- City leaders and residents celebrated the groundbreaking of the city's first solar farm Tuesday.
The solar farm will power 3,400 homes and businesses.
Through the program Tallahassee Solar”, the community will be able to utilize energy from the 20 megawatt solar farm at a fixed rate.
Customers also don’t need to have solar panels on their roofs.
“If you're one of those people who like me, want to be able to subscribe to solar energy, but you got a lot of tree coverage, therefore can't put one on your own roof, you can now go on and sign up to pull down energy and power your house from the city of Tallahassee,” said Mayor Andrew Gillum, City of Tallahassee.
The Solar Farm is set to be up and running by the end of this year.
