TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- As 2017 comes to a close, Tallahassee is preparing to celebrate the beginning of a new year.

To ring in 2018, Tallahassee Downtown will host New Year’s Eve fireworks at Cascades Park on Sunday. The show will take place at 7 p.m. with music playing throughout the park starting at 6:30 p.m.

The event is a way to make things more family friendly and encourage the community to celebrate locally.

"By staying in Tallahassee, and staying in downtown Tallahassee, you're close to home and you're supporting the downtown businesses and businesses in our community that serve us all year long,” said Paige Carter-Smith, CEO of the Downtown Improvement Authority. “And this is a slow time for them so it's great for us to go out and spend money, eat and drink and fellowship and then go home and tuck yourself into your own bed."

The city’s trolley system will also be operating throughout the night in midtown, Collegetown and downtown, taking celebrators to and from Cascades Park as well as its usual stops which are lined with local restaurants.

Eateries including the Edison, Southern Pub, Andrew’s and more will offer New Year’s Eve specials. For more information, click here.
