JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (CNN) - A Tallahassee couple got married in Jacksonville's airport as Hurricane Michael rolled in on Wednesday.
They originally planned to exchange vows at a Leon County courthouse before heading out on their honeymoon. They had to abandon that plan due to Hurricane Michael.
So, Jim and Lorri Beary got married in the middle of Jacksonville International Airport. They have been together for eight years.
"The 10th day of the 10th year of the 10th month, decided that I had fallen in love with her, and I knew that one day we would be here," Jim said. "Not at the airport, mind you, but I knew that we would be married."
That's how they decided to get married on Wednesday, October 10.
They had been planning for about six months to exchange vows at a courthouse near where they lived in Tallahassee. Then they'd fly to Italy for their honeymoon.
"At the house, when he told me that the courthouse was closing, yes, I freaked and he calmed me down," Lorri said.
They only had a few days to figure out an alternative plan. After many phone calls, they got in contact with Selecia Young-Jones, who agreed to officiate at the airport
"This is indeed the most unique one I've done so far," Young-Jones said.
Jim and Lorri said the circumstances reminded them of why they got together eight years ago: Adventure. Their brief ceremony took place in front of total strangers, their marriage record was notarized, and they were officially Mr. and Mrs. Berry.
Now, the newlyweds have embarked on a 10-day trip to Italy. When they return home, they plan to have a reception with family and friends.
